Building a Fire Truck

IMG_3811Well for starters, you need lots of cake!  And elbow room doesn’t hurt either.  It’s really not that hard.  Start with working out the basic shape you want and keep in mind that the icing will add more “meat to the bones” in the end result.

Make sure you put a thin crumb coat layer on.  And making sure you use the right colors in the right places will help with your final frosting later.  Keep in mind that this layer of frosting doesn’t have to be perfect.  It just locks those crumbs in place and allows for a more flawless frosted cake.

IMG_3815While your crumb coat is getting a little drying time, you can focus a little on the firetruck accessaries.  These rims I made with chocolate covered oreo cookies!  A little luster dust, and BAM!  You have cute little rims to wrap some black fondant with to make the tires.

Now it’s time for your final frosting!  It’s oh so good, but be careful not to make it too thick.  There is a happy median of cake and frosting and you have to make sure you don’t over do it!  Make it smooth as you can.  Presentation is everything people!!!  My hands never start shaking at this point. (yeah right!)

Okay…Now it’s time to have a little fun.  Accessorize girls!  Take a look at some photos or google it or something.  But have fun and put some bling on that thing!  Find a good stopping point so you want over do it and you will have yourself a lovely little fire truck for a lucky little fellows birthday.
